An interview with Alexandre SalleS

Today we have had the fantastic opportunity to interview the amazing artist and illustrator Alexandre SalleS.

We just want to start by saying thank you for taking the time out of your busy schedule to squeeze in an interview for creative phlare!

Creative Phlare: when did you become interested in illustration?

Alexandre SalleS: I’ve been drawing since the age of 7. It started as a hobby and eventually, became my profession!

Creative Phlare:  How did you develop your style and how would you describe it?

Alexandre SalleS: When I graduated in Fine Arts, due to my knowledge of human anatomy, I started working as a scientific illustrator! My artistic influences were Boris Vallejo, Frank Frazetta, Joe Jusko, John Buscema and Barry Windsor Smith! Among these, Boris Vallejo is my favourite! Well… I really couldn´t define my style!… Because… I try to do a bit of everything in my paintings!

Creative Phlare:  Can you describe a bit about your creative process while creating a piece.
Alexandre SalleS: I’m influenced by comics, movies, anime and conversations with friends!
Whenever a good idea comes, I try to paint something!

Creative Phlare:  How would you describe your daily routine?

Alexandre SalleS: As Confucius said: “…Do something you love and you will never work a day in your life!…”

Creative Phlare:  what five things do you believe are really important for every illustrator.

Alexandre SalleS: Actually I believe in just three things:
Study, observe and practice!

Creative Phlare:  do you have any advice anyone new who is starting out on this kind of business.

Alexandre SalleS: I believe that study and practice, are the main things for those who are beginning to draw and paint! Using references to everything you want to paint, it is very important too!
